My own name is Johnston and my dad and his family came from Airdrie. I visited there way back in the 60's and my dad was an avid Airdrie football fan. I went to two matches with him, one being in freezing winter weather.

My grandfather lived at 73 Clark Street and his name was Samuel Johnston . I do have a few cousins who still live around the town. My mum came from Coatbridge. My cousins husband who passed away a couple of years ago now was Hugh Elliott and he was well known in the football club.

I now live in Texas and have been in the states since 1977. A memory I have of Airdrie was eating my first pomegranate which my aunt bought me .

My dad's brother had 4 sons and I have a photo somewhere . I will have to get the one photo I have of them and see their names as I know there was a Sammy and his age is right. One of the brothers died a couple of years ago. One is David and I think John is another My parents moved to Greenock as my dad drove the old steam trains on the Glasgow Gourock line. My older brothers and sisters knew the Johnston cousins more than my twin and I did as they were more of ages with each other. Ours is a family sad to say that meets for wedddings and funerals . I have a photo of my cousin and her husband with another man and it was taken in Airdrie in the back garden of their house. There is another man in the photo who I think had something to do with the Airdrieonians . Is there a way to put a smaller version of the photo on here? If I can find the photo with the brothers on it and if I can post a photo on here then that would be great.

Thanks John for posting a reply. I see you are in S Africa. I forgot to put my location in as Austin , Texas US.

John... my mothers family name was Reston from Coatbridge. There are Palmers in the family through marriage. I have cousins up that way that I probably have not met in about 30 or 40 years. I spoke with my brother in Reading last week and he said there was Sam, Angus, David, Alex and John and two girls in the family one being Ann. I need to find that photo and maybe e-mail it to you.
