Around 1969 me and my old pal Pat Mc Ateer set up the first non sectarian boys club in Airdrie, as we used the old airdrionians black hut for our meetings we called it gartlea boys club. we had some great kids come thro our ranks, later that year we went to belguim with 20 kids for 2 weeks what a time was had,We stayed in a youth hostel in Blankenberg with lots of other nationalities and as you can imigine the boys from Airdrie were out to impress, and impress they did. A football tournament was set up and you have guest right we won.What fond memories any of you boys still out there?

I was hoping some of the kids that came through gartlea youth club might have got in touch,Iam so sad to say that my old mate Pat Mc Ateer passed away on saturday. I will miss him, he was my last contact in Airdrie,and although it is nice to come home who do i go and see.well i am sure i will be back, but i would just like to say Bless you big man.
